Turmeric Health Benefits

Turmeric is a bright yellow spice that is primarily cultivated from the roots of a flowering plant in India and other parts of Southeast Asia. Often used for cooking in a variety of dishes for its the main ingredient in curry. It also has many medicinal uses for various health issues due to the primary active component in turmeric, curcumin. Curcumin has potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antifungal properties.

Studies have shown it to match the power of some anti-inflammatory drugs, without the negative side effects.

One of the greatest downfalls of curcumin is that it’s not well absorbed in the body. However, piperine found in black pepper enhances the absorption of the curcumin, combining turmeric with black pepper increases its potential health benefits. Here are just a few of the health benefits.

Anti-Inflammatory
Inflammation is a common cause for chronic health conditions such as obesity, heart disease, cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. Usually if there’s inflammation there’s pain. Curcumin has been shown to control inflammation if used consistently it can relieve a lot of discomfort.

Good For Your Brain
When the brain is inflamed, memory formation and recall can suffer. The anti-inflammatory properties of curcumin helps provide powerful cognitive health benefits, boost short-term memory and help restore youthful brain function.

Lowers risk of Heart Disease
May reverse steps in the heart disease process by improving the functioning of the lining of your blood vessels, which regulates your blood pressure, and other factors vital to the heart.

Reduce Anxiety & Depression
Several clinical trials have shown that turmeric can influence neurotransmitter balance in the brain. Curcumin appears to have an antidepressant effect through its ability to modulate levels of serotonin and dopamine. It may be a good complementary treatment for depression.

Helps Your Liver Detox
The antioxidant effect of turmeric may stop your liver from being damaged by toxins. This could be good for people who take strong drugs for  their health conditions that might hurt their liver with long-term use.

Turmeric Aids In Digestion
When consumed raw while suffering from a digestive problem, turmeric can help manage the condition. The major components of the spice stimulate the gallbladder to produce bile, instantly making the digestive system more efficient. It is also known to reduce symptoms of bloating and gas.

Plus a host of other benefits!!!

There are many ways to get the wonderful benefits of turmeric, sprinkle on food, in a capsule form as a supplement, as a tea, or golden milk (my personal favorite)! Enjoy!
